At Lalapanzi its quite common to find a herd of impala sleeping outside your cottages and skittish warthog families amble around the camps all day long. Guests can watch birds and crocs from a wonderfully relaxing viewing lounge built over the dam. Lalapanzi can accommodate 52 guests and consists of 26 thatched en-suite, air conditioned chalets, all with 2 beds with private verandas. Included are family unit style chalets with inter-linking doors. The camp is situated around the picturesque Lalapanzi watering hole, with some of the units cradled by the endangered sand forest, all within easy walking distance from the Lalapanzi restaurant and swimming pool facilities.
A communal lounge and bar area raised on stilts overlooking a picturesque dam provides guests with excellent bird viewing opportunities. View the nimble Jacana bird close-up as it walks around the lily pads in the dam, or cool during the hot summers days in the Lalapanzi swimming pool. There is also a childrens play ground which keeps the youngsters busy as this family friendly camp.
Apart from the big 5 drives in Hluhluwe Game Reserve, we offer a lot of other exciting activities for all ages and level of fitness
Bonamanzi Game Drives in open land rovers are offered at sunrise and sunset and at other times throughout the day, depending on guests needs. Bonamanzi has many different antelope species, elephant, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, warthog, wildebeest, zebra, wild dog, hyena and a world famous collection of birds.
For something quite different, book the night game drive when you can see the lesser-known nocturnal animals and maybe catch a glimpse of the elusive leopard. Theres a good chance that youll see the hippos down at the marshes by the river Hluhluwe and lake St.Lucia. Snack and refreshment breaks are part of all the activities at Bonamanzi and there is nothing quite as pleasant as watching the sun set over Lake St Lucia with gin and tonic in one hand, biltong, cheese and biscuits in the other.
Dining at Bonamanzi Game Park
Roughly translated from Zulu, Lalapanzi means come and relax here. At the Lalapanzi camp you will find the Out of Africa style Lalapanzi restaurant which offers a sumptuous buffet to cater for all tastes. Dinner bed and breakfast is included in the rate for those who book to stay in the Lalapanzi camp but the restaurant is open to bookings from anyone staying in self-catering and the general public. At the Lalapanzi restaurant a light lunch menu is also available.
One of the main attractions of the Lalapanzi camp is the simply stunning viewing lounge built on stilts overlooking a large watering hole where you can enjoy birds and crocs. Sitting there at sunset with a gin and tonic listening to the deafening sound of frogs is a moment you will never forget.
Candlelit bush braais in the middle of the indigenous forest near Dinizulu Dam are a real treat. Enjoy crisp linen and silverware, bubbling potjiekos, good wine and local venison delicacies all served by candlelight. Bush braais are normally on Saturday nights and by arrangement on weekdays, weather permitting. Bush braais are quite often arranged together with a night drive.
Our Famous Bush Braai at Bonamanzi Game Park
Do make a point of booking for the Bonamanzi Bush Braai (BBQ) during your stay. Guests meet at the Lalapanzi camp to be escorted down to the waters edge of Dinizulu Lake where you are met by a candle-lit path leading to an array of local foods and smell of meat on the braai. Served by candlelight, you sample local delicacies and venison dishes, savour South African wines and linger with other guests around the campfire. Due to the organization required, there is a minimum number of guests required to lay on the Bush Braai. Please enquire when making your reservation or at reception when checking in.
