Feathered Nest Guest Farm - Magaliesberg

Feathered Nest Guest Farm is located in Magaliesberg. Find out more about Magaliesberg here.

The Feathered Nest is a privately owned and run guest farm. Much pride was taken in the acquisition and restoration of this original late 1800's farmhouse, with wooden floors and pressed metal ceilings surrounded by 120 hectares of unspoilt land, with a river dissecting bushveld and grasslands.

We have perfected the ideal service team, caring for private transportation, accommodation and bookings with guides adding to your knowledge of the wildlife and terrain. With qualified Field and Tourist Guides accredited with Satour and FGASA, as well as all the relevant insurances and PDPs for operating in this field, it's our passion for sharing knowledge that sets us apart from the rest.

Aptly named The Feathered Nest, we focus on birding, as well as the provision of cozy accommodation to those honeymooners, couples or families wanting the ideal private break-away in celebration of an occasion or just to get some space and sanity away from the rat race.

Being a privately owned and run estate, we specialise in pampered attention for special occasions, because there is only one opportunity of celebrating your 10th wedding anniversary or your honeymoon. It has to be right - first time.

Be sure to read our Guest Book, as this is a reflection of sentiments our guests have for our services and "specialties":

Gourmet Meals

Our gourmet meals are "almost famous" as this is one of the areas we pay close attention to. When you make your booking, the questions asked at the time will assist us in establishing what your allergies, dislikes and special dietary requirements are, example, vegetarian.

We cater for special occasions, those romantic get-togethers.

Personalised Service

Our specialty. Being privately owned, this is our hallmark. As we cater for small groups or families we can focus on this area of your stay and hence make it most pleasurable.

Emphasis on Privacy

Our cottages are nestled in between the trees and are spaced strategically so as to allow for total privacy. The dining room is set up to allow for comfortable, "un-crowded" dining.

Activities

Our focus is on pampered attention and relaxing in privacy and to this end bird watching and walking on the estate fit the bill.

An alternative to the walking is to take a quad ride around the farm, where you can see the farm from a totally different vantage point. These are automatic Quad bikes that are quiet and eco-friendly and easy to ride by both guys and gals - no previous experience needed. Certainly a great experience and fun to get around with.

But if you are after a private tour, this to can be arranged and organised. We will remove the hassle from the planning of a memorable trip in South Africa, and we will guide you every step of the way.

Spacious accommodation

Our accommodation is built specifically to allow for open-plan living. With a large (two person) bath, open-air shower, private garden and a conversation area. One thing not lacking is space.

The Name

The Feathered Nest is what we settled on as a name for our farm as we are passionately involved in birding and have a large population on the farm itself. Together with our efforts to assist injured and maimed birds, we thought it apt to call the farm The Feathered Nest

The Bird Rehabilitation Centre

This is an ongoing project we have undertaken as a community service and a passion of ours to help nature cope with some of Man's mistakes and sometimes selfishness. We take in and rehabilitate injured birds and if they are able to be released this we undertake too. More often than not we have to care for them and this takes time and funding. We call for funds from institutions and private persons alike - to build aviaries and buy food as well as pay for veterinary services.

The Location

We are based just outside the main Rustenburg area, in the tranquil mountains at the tail end of the Magaliesberg on a private estate on 120 hectares of prime land. Being just a 90 minute scenic drive from either Johannesburg or Pretoria, makes this an ideal break-away destination. Upon any booking being secured, we send out explicit directions.

Planning a surprise getaway for you and your partner, a special honeymoon holiday, a Valentine Day celebration or even just to make up or just plain pampering for your partner, our specialty is geared at couples and small groups.

Our winter season begins towards the end of April till September when we welcome Spring time. South africa is blessed to have terrific weather most of the year round.
