Namibia Itinerary

Day 1

We meet in Windhoek where we will collect our vehicles and overnight at a B&B in town.

Although the capitol of Namibia, Windhoek is still relatively small with a uniquely cosmopolitan feel. The German influence is still abundantly clear in the architecture and place names and many Windhoek residents pride themselves in the fact that they can speak German. Depending on the timing of your flight you should have enough time to explore this wonderful city with us before we head off on our expedition.

Day 2 - 4

After breakfast we depart for the renowned Etosha National Park, through the town of Otjiwarongo, where we will camp in the Okaukuejo Rest Camp for the first night.

Dominated by a massive alkaline lake that is mostly dry the Etosha National Park showcase Namibias wildlife in an authentic and truly spectacular fashion.

A unique feature of the Etosha Camps is the floodlit waterholes that are adjacent to the camp fence. Here visitors can spend the evening while observing elephant, rhino and lion coming down to drink till late in the night.

We work our way towards the east of the park over the next few days while seeking out the unique animals that have adapted to this harsh environment and will overnight in the camps of Halali and Namutoni.

Day 5

We leave the Etosha behind and proceed to the town of Ruacana on the Kunene River in the far north where we will overnight.

A small trickle is all that remains of the mighty Ruacana Falls due to the construction of a large dam upstream in Angola as well as the diversion of huge quantities of water through the turbine of the nearby hydro-electrical station. Today Ruacana is known as the gateway for explorations to Angola and the northern Namibian region of Kaokoland.

Day 6

Today we travel along the Kunene River, the border between Namibia and Angola. This is a very remote part of the country and we will put our newly acquired driving skills to the test.

These desolate parts are the beginning of the Himba stronghold that stretched into Koakoland and after an exciting day we spend a night wild camping on the banks of the Kunene in absolute isolation a rare experience indeed!!

Day 7

After breakfast we continue down the river to the Epupa Falls. These falls are one of the highlights of the trip and we will camp under the palm trees on the rivers edge with the roar of the mighty Kunene cascading down the gorge in our ears.

Day 8

We head west into Koakoland and the stunning Van Zyls pass. Although only 120km distant it will take us most of the day to reach the campsite at the top of Van Zyls Pass.

Day 9

The day starts with an exciting drive down the steep and rugged Van Zyls pass with wonderful views of the plains below.

We continue northwards through the Marienfluss and spend the evening camping under the Anas trees on the banks of the Kunene River with Angola a stones throw away.

Day 10 12

We now turn south and continue to explore the remote western parts of Kaokoland, close to the infamous Skeleton Coast. Interesting drives through gravel plains and in dry riverbeds afford us the rare opportunity to spot the elusive desert elephants and other creatures that have adapted to this harsh environment.

Day 13

We leave Kaokoland and head for Damaraland where we visit the Twyfelfontein area with its famous rock engravings as well as the Organ Pipes and the Burnt Mountain. We camp in the region of Khorixas.

Damaraland contains fascinating evidence of the history of Namibia. Visits to some of these sites where the previous inhabitants of this wildlife paradise practiced there hunter-gatherer lifestyle is a treasured experience.

Day 14

After breakfast we head back towards Windhoek where the tour ends.

Should you have the time available, and armed with your newfound driving skills and knowledge of the country, there are many other parts of Namibia that are easily accessible and have magnificent attractions to visit. We would be happy to assist you in arranging an extension to your stay should you wish to explore more of the country.
