All Natural - Island Style - Laid Back & Rustic- On the Beach
Leave your worries and the chaotic energy of the city behind you, as you remove your shoes and walk on the soft beach sand entering this unique Robinson Crusoe style eco-village that is right on the beach. It is here that one drifts off into peaceful slumber with dolphin experiences guiding you into dream-time, with the hum of the ocean on your doorstep.
Magical and quaint, Dolphins Beach Camp had been home to us since 1997 and with direct beach access, early mornings are spent watching the magnificent sunrise, searching for dolphins, sussing out the waves and monitoring the wind before embarking on dolphin swims.
Constructed out of local materials and wood the Dolphin Beach Camp offers a space that is tranquil and peaceful. Wind chimes and hammocks adorn this little island style paradise that has been decorated by Angie with a splash of trendy hip-ness encompassing all that is dolphin!
The Beach Camp is a wonder for kids, taking them into a space of nature, Robinson Crusoe styleno TV, no play station and no computer games. Just the beach, the dolphins and you! Stylish ablution facilities are within the Dolphin Beach Camp and have hot water showers. The Dolphin Beach Camp houses our Dolphin Centre and Curio shop as well as Angie's dolphin library.
Meals are served at the Beach Camp and are prepared fresh by our resident chefs Roxy and Tina. Brunches include fruit, muesli, yogurt, cereals, muffins and a cooked meal i.e.: omelettes. We do cater for vegetarians on request. Please specify on booking form. Dinners are set and a vegetarian option is available. Meals include Prawns, Portuguese Chicken, and Roast lamb served with a salad, local bread and dessert.
There is a set lunch menu available daily for your convenience at the camp.
There is a small bar for dolphin clients selling local drinks only. Please bring your own fancy potions. Tea and coffee is available throughout your stay. We have no self catering facilities. Please bring your own drinking water however it is available at the bar.
Ponta do Ouro - Point of Gold
Ponta is situated on the southern most point of Mozambique bordering South Africa and is fast becoming one of the best places in the world to swim with wild dolphins. She transforms herself from a cozy, quiet village out of season, to a vibey diving tourist Mecca in-season. Days can be spent soaking up the sun on soft white beaches, scuba diving in mystical surrounds, soul surfing off the point or kite-boarding. There is much to do sooth the soul and energize your inner being. Evenings are spent nestled cozily around the camp fire or partying till the early hours at Caf del Mar.
GETTING TO PONTA DO OURO
All our packages are self drive to the Kosi Bay Border (650km from JHB and about 4 hours from Durban, 2 hours from Richards Bay), were you will be collected by 4x4 and transported to the Dolphin Beach Camp. Please obtain directions from web-page:- Ponta do Ouro. There is a police lock-up on the South African side to leave your vehicle at a charge of R30 per night. Transfers: at 9 and 11am. If you have a 4x4 you are welcome to bring it through. The costs are R160 for temporary car importation. Overnight accommodation can be arranged in Pongola at Cassamer for those wishing to break the journey at R300 p/p/sharing dinner, bed and brunch.
ECO-ACTIVITIES
Apart from swimming with dolphins there are a number of eco-friendly activities to take part in and around town. Some are dependant on water and weather conditions. Please bring cash to settle extra activities.
