Pennington: The home of Selbourne Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate was named after Richard Pennington and is home to Botha House built by General Louis Botha for his wife, Annie, on land given to him by Sir Frank Reynolds, a sugar magnate and a member of the Colonys Legislative Council. Umdoni Park, a sanctuary named after the Umdoni tree, was established by Sir Frank to preserve the indigenous fauna and flora. He presented it to the South African nation in 1920 and the Umdoni Trust was formed.
Today, the Park offers wonderful walking trails, excellent birding and the Komba Bird Sanctuary and Nkumbane Dam, which are perfect for appreciating the profusion of fauna to be enjoyed in this part of the world. And if you are into indigenous plants, take a stroll through the local Indigenous Nursery to see the beautiful plants and birds native to South Africa.
